Why choose Jacksonville as home?

Location, Location, Location.

Boasting a tropical, warm, climate with mild winters, Jacksonville even offers some fall variety with colorful leaves thanks to the 3-5 days during the winter months that may reach 32 degrees or lower. The heart of our city lays nestled on the beautiful St. Johns River providing easy access to beach and water activities no matter where you reside.

Although Florida has a reputation for being a haven for hurricanes, Jacksonville has not had a hurricane to make landfall since Dora in 1964.

Our city operates the largest urban park system in the United States. We have 111,600 acres of parks and recreation areas for you to explore and enjoy.

Surrounding Areas

Jacksonville is prominently located about 30 minutes from the oldest city in America, St. Augustine, and is about 2 hours north of Orlando and all the Disney theme parks.

Travel east from Jacksonville and you will find the Intercoastal Waterway, and a short distance further, the vast Atlantic Ocean. The state capital, Tallahassee, is approximately two hours drive to the west.

Education is always a concern for family and out of 67 school districts in the state, St. Johns County, near Jacksonville is ranked first and is always at the top of the list. We also offer many nationally recognized private schools, such as Bolles and Bishop Kenny.

Health Care

There is no lack for quality healthcare options available to Jacksonville residents. In fact, we are proud to be home of some of the finest hospitals in our nation. With cutting edge research, Mayo Clinic hosts international guests from all over the world. Our teaching hospital, UF Health Jacksonville’s campus, is home to North Florida’s Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the nation’s few proton therapy treatment centers.

We also are home to the large Naval Hospital Jacksonville with a mission of “Healing our nations heroes”. The hospital has performed its first neurostimulator implant and also has walk in service.

And last but certainly not least, Jacksonville boasts cutting edge medical technology at our pediatric facilities, Nemours and Wolfson, both full service children’s hospitals pioneering pediatric biomedical research programs.
